Job Title: Government Underwriter

Location: Remote (EST Hours)

Salary: $80-100k DOE, $6-8k in monthly bonus

We are seeking experienced Government Underwriters to join our growing team. Candidates with at least FHA (DE) and Conventional experience will be considered, with preference given to those holding an active LAPP/SAR designation. The Underwriter will be responsible for executing underwriting based on company policies and standards, ensuring decisions that protect financial and operational interests.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Underwrite FHA and VA loans, holding an active government designation (DE/SAR/LAPP).
Underwrite various other loan types, including Conventional, Bond, USDA, Renovation, and Construction.
Process 45+ initial underwrites per month.
Communicate regularly with Loan Officers and/or Processors to update the status of loans using current technology.
Follow up on files, checking orders as conditions are signed off and new information is received.
Stay up-to-date on current loan products and underwriting guidelines.
Provide leadership regarding underwriting resources and credit policy execution within the team.
Maintain accurate logs and records to track the progress of loans.
Assist with training and development of other mortgage team members.
Perform ad hoc reporting as needed.
Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience:

Minimum of five (5) years of specific government underwriting experience.
Must possess a valid CHUMS and/or LAPP/SAR designation to underwrite FHA and VA loans.
Must have worked as a frontline underwriter within the past 12-18 months.
Recent experience underwriting Conventional loans.
Preference for underwriters with experience in Bond, USDA, Renovation, and Construction loans.
Must have a solid understanding of DU and LP input and the ability to interpret and document findings.
Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and email systems.
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
Proven leadership capabilities.
High integrity and confidentiality required.
